VAC Budapest

The Vívó és Atlétikai Club , the fencing and athletics club , or VAC for short , was a Jewish sports club from Budapest that existed from 1906 to 1939. After the club was dissolved by the National Socialists , the tradition of the club was revived in 1989 with the establishment of the Maccabi VAC .

In the first few years the main focus of the club's activities was on fencing and gymnastics . Football , swimming , water polo and boxing were added in the 1920s . The offer was later expanded to include table tennis , wrestling , basketball and tennis .

The footballers played a total of five seasons in Hungary's top league from 1921 to 1926 . The best placement was achieved in 1924 with a fifth place. During this time, the VAC also provided three Hungarian national players with Lajos Fischer , Dezso Grosz and Miklós Singer . Imre Schlosser , the historic king of the league shooter, was once a coach of the VAC.
