VAST (short for Visual Audio Sensory Theater) is an American band founded by Jon Crosby, a musician from Los Angeles . Jon is the group's singer, guitarist and songwriter . The style of the music is pop-rock / independent , with this mainstream music being supplemented with some original electronic recordings, such as monk chants, violins or entire orchestras.

biography

Crosby formed the band at the age of 16 with a rhythm sequencer and a bass player. VAST's first live concerts contained elements of music and performance art, supported by large monitors and other visual effects.

The band celebrated their first successes when a local radio station added their demo tapes to the rotation . Crosby then sent the tapes to several record labels in New York and finally signed a contract with Elektra Records . The group was completed at short notice by Thomas Froggatt, Steve Clark and Rowan Robertson. After touring America, their self-titled debut album was released in 1998. Then they began to record the follow-up "Music for People", which came out in 2000. Robertson left the band before its completion to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Justin Cotta. The new quartet embarked on another US tour, but in 2001 Clark and Cotta decided to found a new formation together and turned their backs on VAST.

The next VAST album "Nude" was released in February 2004 and two months later the band was back on the stages in the USA, again with a different line-up of musicians. By late 2003, Crosby had founded his own record label "2Blossoms Records & Media", and after the 2004 tour with "Nude", the double album "Turquoise and Crimson" was released. After that two more records were released: "A Complete Demonstration" (2005), a compilation of unreleased demo songs, and a live recording called "Live at CBGBs" from 2006.

The studio album "April" was released in May 2007 as a download. This is also now available in a limited edition on CD. In June 2009 the new album "Me and You" followed, which was previously available as a download. It contains some songs from Jon Crosby's 2008 solo project and the Generica IV albums.

"Flames" from the debut album "Visual Audio Sensory Theater" ran in the 2004 film Summer Storm and can also be found on the soundtrack.

The song "Touched" from the debut album "Visual Audio Sensory Theater" was played in 2009 as the background music for the common catwalk of all participants of the 4th season of Germany's Next Top Model in the final broadcast. This helped the single to enter the chart for the first time 11 years after it was released. The song even reached number 11 in the download charts.

"Pretty When You Cry" from the album "Visual Audio Sensory Theater" was featured in the 2010 cinema trailer of " We Are the Night " and in the film and can also be found on the soundtrack .

In the spring of 2013 Jon Crosby got back with a fundraiser project in which anyone can support him financially while working on the new album. The preliminary demo versions will be made publicly available in October and fans can participate in weekly polls to decide which songs will be released on the new record.
