The VDA standard 260 ( Association of the Automotive Industry ) defines the type and manner of permanent substance labeling for all manufacturers of automotive parts.

So z. B. In principle, in the case of multilayer structures, the individual materials or compounds are listed from the labeling. For the abbreviation, reference is made to various ISO standards, e.g. B. to ISO 1043 for symbols of plastic parts.

The background for the parts identification is the highest possible reuse and recycling. This has also been stipulated since 2000 by the EU directive 2000/53 / EC on end-of-life vehicles . Almost all vehicle manufacturers operate a material database for this purpose. In this IMDS database, each part is broken down down to the basic chemical substances.
