biography
Varma was an engineer prior to his career as a director . As a director, he has significantly influenced Indian cinema - alongside his friend Mani Ratnam . While Ratnam impresses with his clear, political statements in the film, it is Varma's manual work method. This brings Hindi films closer to Hollywood in terms of quality. Above all, Varma has protested and promoted the career of Antara Mali , who repeatedly appeared in plays produced or filmed by him.
In 2007, Varma shot a remake of Sholay , the most famous and successful Hindi film of all time. Amitabh Bachchan , who played one of the heroes in the original, took on the role of the villain. Varma had his film after a decision of the Delhi High Court in Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag rename; the names of the people involved also had to be changed. The film flopped and quickly disappeared from theaters.
