The Association of German Students (VDSt) in Bonn is a colorful, non-striking student association founded on June 20, 1882 at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität , which is a member of the Association of Associations of German Students (Kyffhäuser Association) .

history

The VDSt Bonn was founded on June 20, 1882 in the restaurant "Zur Eintracht" in Bonn. In the same year he was accepted into the Kyffhäuser Association at its second association conference in Berlin. In 1883 the federal government was suspended again, only to be re-established in 1886. After purchasing the first house of their own in 1896 at Quantiusstrasse 18, Bonn VDSter became increasingly involved in the commissions of the Bonn student body. In 1904 the old gentlemen's association was entered in the register of associations. In the following years, the VDSt Bonn regularly took on responsibility among fellow students. In 1909 and 1913 he chaired the assembly of the Bonn student body and formed the suburb of the Kyffhäuser Association in 1911/12 .

Federal life was maintained during the First World War. 36 Bonn VDSter died in the war. After the occupation troops marched in, the federal government was suspended and re-established in 1919. A strong increase in membership made it possible for the VDSt Bonn to found the VDSt Aachen and, together with the VDSt Marburg, the VDSt Cologne. In the course of the implementation of the Versailles Treaty, the VDSt Bonn was banned by the allied occupation authorities. Until the occupiers withdrew in 1926, the VDSt continued to operate in secret. In 1929 a new house was acquired on Reuterstrasse, in which federal life flourished.

During the Nazi era, corporate life changed. The VDSt house became a camaraderie. The drum business was stopped in 1936. In 1937 the VDSt was incorporated into the NS student body together with SV Makaria Bonn and SV Rheno-Skaldia Cologne and renamed "Kameradschaft Moltke". As a result of the war, a traditional active life was hardly possible.

In 1950 the VDSt Bonn was re-established. At the 70th association conference in Bonn in February 1951, efforts were made to re-establish the association. As a result, there was a merger with seven other leagues to form the VVDSt . In 1952 the Bonner Bund provided the suburb of the new association. Federal life developed positively. Thanks to the headquarters of the federal government in Bonn, qualified speakers have regularly been recruited for lecture events. One was particularly concerned with the questions of German reunification and the unity of Europe. The way to a new liaison house took several attempts. After initially renting several rooms on Bismarckstrasse, they moved into a floor at Beethovenplatz 13 in 1959. In 1963 the VDSt acquired the house in Bonn Talweg 80, where it is still based today.

On June 14, 1975, the Bonn VDSt was suspended again, but only for one year. In 1985, the VDSt Bonn declared its resignation from the VVDSt, as some member associations neither distanced themselves enough from left-wing nor right-wing extremist ideas. After the "Leoben Declaration" initiated by the VDSt Bonn had been accepted at the association conference in 1987, the federal government rejoined the association and hosted the batch conference the following year.

In 1992/93 the federal government took part in the “Bonn Students Against Xenophobia” campaign. After reunification and the move of the federal government to Berlin, the focus of the lectures shifted to international topics and the question of the growing together of Europe. Today, the VDSt Bonn offers a wide range of lectures due to the variety of courses of its members. One deals with current political and scientific topics.

Coat of arms and compasses

Various symbols are used in the VDSt zu Bonn, which can be subdivided into symbols that are only worn by the VDSt zu Bonn, such as their own circle and their own coat of arms , as well as symbols that are common throughout the association.

The coat of arms of the VDSt zu Bonn consists of a quartered shield. The first field is split obliquely to the left by black, silver and red; the second field shows a black, red armored eagle on silver (for Prussia); the third field shows a black stand in the head of a silver shield, underneath it a red, striding lion (for Bonn); the fourth field shows two black crossed clubs with black-silver-red baskets in the red field. On the temple helmet of black-silver and red-silver split helmet covers, a crown grows out of which a red-robed herald grows, who carries the image from field 2 on his chest. In his right hand he holds a black-silver-red flag, in his left hand a parchment on which the date 20.06.82 can be found.
