The VEB Neontechnik was a state-owned enterprise in Halle (Saale) . In the GDR and Eastern Bloc countries he was one of the largest manufacturers of illuminated advertising .

Major projects in particular were implemented. The VEB was spun off as an independent company from DEWAG (German Advertising and Advertising Company ) in 1962 and was incorporated into the "Kombinat Elektrotechnik" in 1985 as part of austerity measures.

Neontechnik developed numerous well-known neon advertising such as the capital letters at Schönefeld Airport, the "Plaste und Elaste aus Schkopau" plaque based on a design by Siegfried Berthmann on the bridge near Vockerode over the Elbe of the A9 motorway for the Buna-Werke . The installation is now part of the collection of the German Historical Museum . The GDR petrol stations Minol were also equipped with neon advertising from VEB Neontechik. Further examples are the large illuminated logos of Messe Leipzig and the ORWO advertisements. In the period of transition until 1992, Mr. Schwarzbach was in charge of day-to-day business. In particular, the large order for newer roof structures for all miniature filling stations would have ensured the company a livelihood for years. VEB Neontechnik in the Kombinat Elektrotechnik was privatized in the course of the turnaround. After the trust settlement, Siegfried Urbscheid and Jürgen Riebele won the bidding process. These indebted the company disproportionately, so that bankruptcy was brought about. Due to the debts, no new investor or buyer of the factory could be found, so an insolvency administrator appointed a tenant. After the bankruptcy, parts of the workforce and parts of the inventory were taken over by the Alpha Signs Group. In 1997 the production of this one main tenant was outsourced and the VEB Neontechnik site has since been used for youth culture projects. The insolvency administrator sold the neon technology in 2008 to Gabriel Machemer , who now runs the Hühnermanhattan venue there .
