The shipyard Oderberg was 1927 in Oderberg founded as a repair yard and built small wooden boats. After the war it became the Soviet State Oderschiffahrt-Aktiengesellschaft (SSOAG), i.e. a Soviet joint-stock company (SAG) with the aim of satisfying the USSR's reparation claims . From 1948 the construction of barges began, initially made of wood. After the conversion to steel construction, subcontracts came from the Rostock shipyards. In addition, the construction of steel fishing trawlers began .

In 1952 this SAG company had around 300 employees and was returned to the GDR . By 1956, around 60 fishing trawlers had been built in large series, which were delivered to the USSR as part of the reparations . In addition to flushing barges, barges and motor cargo ships were then built for the German inland shipping company.

The great need for hatch covers for the large shipyards was one of the reasons for the conversion into a supplier company. The hatches were getting bigger and more demanding, the background was the trend towards the “open ship” with as little underwater as possible. The new type of ship RoRo needed stern and side ramps , which were developed and manufactured here from 1982. With the licenses and plans of Mac Gregor, such ramps were built for export ships.

In 1990 the Oderwerft was transferred to DMS AG , in 1991 it was outsourced as a trust company and at the end of 1992 it was taken over by Mr Bredemeier from Stuhr near Bremen. The company has been operating as Oderberger Stahlbau GmbH since 1995 and produces hatch covers, rear and side ramps, weather protection roofs and other steel constructions for structural and industrial construction.
