The German Binnenreederei AG bereedert some 800 barges . It was created in 1957 when the German Shipping and Handling Operations Center (DSU), founded in 1949, was renamed as a state-owned operation and is now majority owned by the Polish company OT Logistics SA

history

Before the establishment of the German Shipping Union (DSU)

At the end of the Second World War , the east of Germany in particular was in a state of severe destruction. During the fighting, the inland shipping companies operating in the eastern regions of Germany made every effort to sell their ships to regions further west. They hoped to escape the fighting and also to save their ships "from the Russians". Especially in the Berlin area, the destruction was devastating, there were almost no functioning roads and railway bridges. To supply the occupied territories, the Soviet military administration primarily relied on inland shipping and issued appropriate orders. Up until the end of the war in 1945 there were still numerous shipping companies and their agencies, cooperatives and private ship owners in Berlin. Their operational fleet was confiscated by the Soviet occupying forces and sorted into the part that was to be brought to the USSR as reparations . These units were marked with a white triangle with a red star or hammer and sickle by the Soviet commissioners and were towed across the Baltic Sea into the Soviet Union. The occupying power ruled the German authorities they appointed with orders , the execution of which, as a rule, could not be discussed.

The Inland Shipping Working Group was founded in 1946 as a shipping company with the aim of carrying out all inland waterway transports in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) to transfer the inland waterway vessels into state or state-owned property . In 1949 it was dissolved or renamed to Deutsche Schiffahrts- und Umschlagbetriebe (DSU) and in 1956/1957 the DSU branched out into several companies such as regional VEB inland ports , VEB Deutsche Binnenreederei (DBR), VEB Fahrgastschiffahrt and repair yard Dresden and others. October 1, 1949 is assumed to be the founding day of the German inland shipping company. On this day, the state-owned inland navigation in the Soviet occupation zone was declared.

The VEB German Binnenreederei Berlin , later only VEB Binnenreederei Berlin called, led by almost all inland transports the GDR from that time. From 1965 onwards, the first experience has been gained with towboat drive, first with the push barge type KSP 33 and the push boat of type KSS 190 Z for the canal trip and soon after, with the current push boats. 2007 Takeover of Odratrans SA

In 2001 there was a reorganization and conversion from a GmbH to a stock corporation. In 2007, the majority of the shares were taken over by the Polish Odratrans SA , now OT Logistics SA . With around 800 ships or thrust units and a total load capacity of around 400,000 DTW, one of the largest inland shipping groups in Europe was created.
