The canal push boat type 190 Z (KSS 23) , also known as KSS 23 for short , is a type of push boat used by the GDR inland shipping and was built from 1964 to 1966 at the shipyard in Roßlau . This was preceded by extensive tests of the principle of pushing shipping with existing converted tugs and other motor vessels. The launch of the first test boat took place under the company's preliminary internal registration number Sch-149 . Its commissioning took place in September 1963.

history

The series production of the canal pusher vessels began at the end of 1964 at the Roßlau shipyard. The first launch took place on New Year's Eve. When the company was privatized after 1990, some ships were sold or flagged out. The majority of the ships are in service. Some were converted into accommodation ships by private individuals.

Design and construction

The hull is made in the shape of a pontoon and divided into three watertight compartments by two bulkheads . The superstructures are firmly welded to the hull. The living area for the crew is located in the front area, connected by a cross passage that is accessible from both sides. On the starboard side is the kitchen with pantry, on the port side the bathroom with shower and toilet. Also accessible from the cross aisle, located in the middle, is the boiler room for the central heating on board. The aft engine room can also be reached through bulkheads arranged on both sides.

A total of 74 slipcases were launched in Roßlau. Five ships built only for test purposes were demolished, 69 were taken over into the fleet of VEB Deutsche Binnenreederei. The ships are 14.00 meters long, 8.16 meters wide and have an average draft of 1.00 meters. The side height is 1.60 meters and the total height is 3.95 meters. With normal water levels, the vehicles could be used on almost all waterways in the GDR and Berlin. Two six-cylinder engines 6 KVD 14.5 from SKL with 204 HP were installed as the main engine. In the meantime, however, some main engines and auxiliary machines have been replaced by other makes. The push boats reach a cruising speed of 10.00 km / h in the push convoy. The push boats were originally intended for pushing ships with two booms, each 32.00 meters long, unloaded to a maximum draft of 2.00 meters on low-current waterways. After commissioning, the ships belonged to the VEB Binnenreederei Berlin in the GDR and had the registration number SCH 23XX.

technology

Z-drive disengaged

The drive system, known in the GDR as the Z-drive , was developed in 1956 by the Göbel and Preller company from Dresden. The engine power is transmitted to the propeller in the Kort nozzle via cardan shafts and helical bevel gears . The Kort nozzle can be rotated 360 degrees.
