The VW Bora HyMotion is the prototype of a hydrogen - fuel cell vehicle , which was presented in November 2000th The vehicle is based on the VW Bora model presented in 1998 .

The prototype is refueled with hydrogen liquefied gas. A 28 kW PEMFC - fuel cell so that (38 hp) from Siemens generates electrical energy (102 hp) feeds a 75 kW electric motor for driving. A nickel-metal hydride battery acts as a buffer. With 50 liters of liquid gas (at −253 ° C) the vehicle has a relatively large fuel supply and has a range of 350 km. The acceleration is specified with 12.6 seconds and the top speed with 140 km / h. In the following years, the liquid gas technology was no longer used, the successor VW Touran HyMotion from 2004 works with hydrogen pressure gas.

In addition to the Bora HyMotion, the VW Bora Hy.Power , presented in January 2002, was developed in cooperation with the ETH Zurich and the PSI research institute in Switzerland , which works with a high-performance capacitor unit ( supercaps ) as a buffer.
