The VW Touran HyMotion is the prototype of a hydrogen - fuel cell vehicle and successor of the VW Bora HyMotion presented September, 2004.
The converted Touran has a hydrogen pressure tank with a maximum pressure of 350 bar. The fuel cell system based on a fuel cell stack from Ballard Power Systems with max. A system output of 66 kW (90 PS) drives an 80 kW electric motor (109 PS). A Panasonic nickel metal hydride battery with 1.9 kWh serves as an additional energy storage device , which is charged both by the fuel cell and by feeding back braking energy. As with other vehicles of this generation, the range is less than 200 km (specified 160 km), the acceleration 0-100 km / h is 14 s and the speed is limited to 140 km / h through the use of a two-stage gearbox with a fixed ratio.
The first vehicle was presented at the third CaFCP Road Rally in California in September 2004.
Another in a different color was delivered to Berlin in 2005 as part of the CEP.
In 2007 all Touran HyMotions were given a facelift. As part of the Ideas Expo in October, two of these Touran HyMotion vehicles could be driven onto the Mobile Campus. One has the same Ballard drivetrain as the Mercedes-Benz F-Cell or the Ford Focus FCV Hybrid , the other one developed by Volkswagen itself.
