Vaʻaletoa Sualauvi II.
Tuimalealiʻifano Vaʻaletoa Sualauvi II. (Born April 29, 1947 in Upolu , Samoa ), in simplified script Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II , is a Samoan politician and, since July 21, 2017, the fourth head of state ( O le Ao o le Malo ) of Samoa after taking the oath of office since independence.
Life
After completing school at Samoa College in Apia on Upolu Island , Sualauvi studied law at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra (Bachelor of Laws) and theology at Malua Theological College and Bible School in Malua , Samoa (diploma in theological studies). He initially worked as a teacher, entered the police service and became chief inspector of the Samoa Police Service. He spent three years in New Zealand as a police officer . He then pursued a legal career and became a Solicitor (Principal State Solicitor) at the Office of the Attorney General, then a legal defender in the Department of Justice and at the Supreme Court of Samoa . He has been a member of the Council of Deputies since the 15th parliament, the unicameral Fono parliament .
On July 5, 2017, he was appointed by the 16th Fono as the new head of state to succeed Tufuga Efi , who did not take up a third term. He was sworn in on July 21, 2017 and is in office for five years.
Sualauvi has had the chief title Tuimalealiʻifano since 1977 . The first bearer with the name Sualauvi was Tuimalealiʻifano Toʻoa Sualauvi († 1870), a chief of the Sa Tauaʻana. He is a lay preacher and dean in the A'ana District of the Presbyterian-oriented Congregational Christian Church of Samoa (CCCS) with the honorary title Afioga .
