The city is part of the Aurangabad District . Vaijapur has the status of a Municipal Council . The city is divided into 21 wards . It had a total of 41,296 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census, of which 21,243 were men and 20,053 women. Hindus form the largest group of the city's population with a share of over 64%, followed by Muslims with over 24%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 83.90%, well above the national average.
