UAB Vakarų Baltijos laivų statykla ( English Western Baltija Shipbuilding (WBS) ) is a shipyard in Klaipėda, Lithuania .
In addition to pontoons , river ferries, components and sections for container ships , trawlers , tankers and floating docks are manufactured.
history
The shipyard was established in 1952 by decree of the Ministry of Shipbuilding of the Soviet Union to manufacture fishing boats. From 1958 floating docks were produced. Since April 1997, 98.5 percent of the shipyard has been owned by the Danish shipyard Odense Staalskibsværft , which in turn belongs to the AP Møller-Mærsk group. Odense Staalskibsværft has invested around 21 million euros in the shipyard since April 1997 . In 2000 there were 1,892 employees at AB Baltijos laivų statykla.
The new company emerged from UAB “Vakarų laivų statykla” ir AB “Baltijos” laivų statykla. In 2010 Odense Staalskibsværft sold AB Baltijo laivų statykla and UAB “Baltic Engineering Center” to “ BLRT Grupp ” in Estonia .
