The Val di Campo (in the Alpine Lombard dialect Pus'ciavin also Val da Camp ) is a mountain valley in the canton of Graubünden . It is located as the left side valley of the Poschiavo on the south side of the Bernina Pass .

location

The approximately seven kilometer long valley is surrounded on three sides by Italy. It extends from the Pass da Val Viola ( 2432  m above sea level ) in a south-westerly direction down to Sfazù ( 1577  m above sea level ) on the road over the Bernina Pass, where the road into the valley begins. Access is only permitted with a permit. The Val di Campo is served by a postbus line from Sfazù in the summer .

There are no villages in the valley. Numerous stables have been converted into holiday homes.

In the upper part of the valley there are two mountain houses: At the end of the post bus line is the “Ristorante Pensione Alpe Campo”, a little further down at Lungacqua is the SAC hut Rifugio Saoseo . The latter was built as a farmhouse in 1935. At the end of the 1930s, the SAC rented part of the house and in 1974 bought the ground floor and attic as a condominium. Part of the house was rented from 1940 to 1957 to Zollkreis III for the border guard. At that time, a telephone line was also pulled into the valley.

Waters

The valley is traversed by the Val da Camp , which takes up the stream of the same name from the north at Lungacqua from the Val Mera.

There are several mountain lakes in the back of the valley. The largest is the Lago da Val Viola in the upper section of the valley, which is also called Val Viola . A little below that, in a wooded hollow, is Lago da Saoseo , which is known for its strong blue. There are a number of legends about the lake.
