Val di Cornia

The Val di Cornia , the valley of the Cornia , forms the extreme southern tip of the province of Livorno . In the Val di Cornia are the villages of Piombino , San Vincenzo , Campiglia Marittima , Suvereto , Sassetta and Monteverdi Marittimo .

The settlement of the valley goes back to the Etruscans , who mined for ore there.

Today the area is more characterized by tourism and agriculture, especially as a wine region that coined the name of the Val di Cornia DOC .
