The name comes from Sasso (rock). The landscape is characterized by chestnut forests and macchia . In the east of the town, approx. 3 km away, there is a thermal center.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1238. In the Middle Ages Sassetta belonged to Pisa as a fief of the Orlandi family , but came to Florence in the 16th century under various feudal lords . Since the 17th century it belonged again to Pisa. Due to its location on a hill, the place was already fortified by the Orlandi. Today the Palazzo Ramirez de Montalvo from the 16th century and the parish church (Chiesa di Sant'Andrea) are located at the highest point of the village.
