history

The place was created around 754 together with the monastery Monastero di San Pietro in Palazzuolo . The castle Castello di Monteverdi was built before the year 1000. While the monastery was under the protection of Massa Marittima at that time , the place itself was under the rule of Volterra . The Republic of Florence conquered the place in 1472 and handed it over to the feudal lord Ferdinando Incontri under Ferdinando II. De 'Medici in 1665 . With the abolition of feudal rule in 1776 by Leopold II , the place fell back to the Duchy of Tuscany . After the end of the Napoleonic occupation in 1815, the place was again under the Duchy of Florence, but under Pisan administration. From 1837 until the unification of Italy , the municipality belonged to Grosseto , then it was divided into the new province of Pisa.
