history

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1200, when he was drafting his constitution . Under Ugo di Giovanni della Gherardesca (Count of Montescudaio and Vicar of Pisa and for the Maremma ), known as Bacarozzo, the place rebelled against the rule of Pisa in 1345. The uprising was put down and the place remained under the rule of Pisa until 1406. On October 25, 1406, the parish of Florence was subjugated. On March 17, 1628, Grand Duke Ferdinando II. De 'Medici handed over the place to feudal rule to Lorenzo de' Medici (1599-1648) from a Neapolitan branch line of the Medici . With the abolition of feudal rule in 1776 by Leopold II , the place fell back to the Duchy of Tuscany . After the end of the Napoleonic occupation in 1815, the place was again under the Duchy of Florence until the unification of Italy , then it was divided into the new province of Pisa. The district of Terriccio with the Gaetani castle belonged to this family from 962 until the early 19th century.
