The Valentin-Traudt-Schule in Großalmerode is a cooperative comprehensive school of the Werra-Meißner district with all-day courses. It was named after the local poet Valentin Traudt .

history

On October 3, 1953, the inauguration of the first building of today's Valentin-Traudt-Schule took place in Jonasbach, which was initially designed as a primary school. With constant building extensions, a comprehensive school has emerged from it, which has also included the middle school as a secondary school branch. The introduction of the comprehensive school (1972) profoundly changed the school structure in the catchment area of Großalmerode. The students from the surrounding village schools, the municipal secondary school and the secondary school were united under one roof. There was also a high school branch, which for the first time enabled direct access to the Abitur for Großalmerode.

School today

A, B and C wing of the VTS, June 2019

The Valentin Traudt School (VTS) has an entry level. There the H / R classes 5/6 are organized as a support level and the grammar school classes 5/6 as the grammar school entry class. After the entry level, the pupils are educated in the school types Gymnasium , Realschule and Hauptschule . In the secondary and secondary school area, the learners are supported by support offers and in the high school area there is a promotion of gifted students. Since mid-2019, basic lessons in the use of computers and office software have been given in all school types.

Numerous renovations were carried out by November 2016. For this purpose, the existing parts of the building had to be completely renovated and designed according to the school concept of SoL ( self-organized learning ) and IL ( individualized learning ).

All day offer

The Valentin-Traudt-Schule has been an all-day school since the beginning of the 2006/2007 school year with an hourly rhythm of 45 minutes and a lunch break after the 5th period. This all-day offer includes facilities such as the games library, the school and city library, an extensive AG offer and a school restaurant, which are tailored to the needs of the learners and are partly open to the public.

School and development process

In 2005, the Valentin-Traudt-Schule seemed to be about to close due to falling student numbers. A school development process was then initiated by the school management, class and year teams as well as specialist and steering groups, which not only included demographic change, but also social discussions about the importance of schools in public.

A start was made to develop a systematic quality management system and to evaluate the school procedures. Since then, the primary educational goal of the Valentin Traudt School has been to enable students to face the challenges of life and to cope with them successfully - in the sense of holistic and comprehensive education. There was a paradigm shift from teaching to learning in the sense of self-organized learning (SoL), which is understood as the ability to acquire skills and knowledge independently. For this reason, learners can actively contribute to school development themselves. For a few years now, the Valentin-Traudt-Schule has served as a contact point in the region for numerous schools thanks to its long-term SoL testing and refinement and offers class visits and visits to classrooms designed according to SoL criteria and is a partner for SoL-related training courses and Reference of a successful all-day school available.

Thanks to these ongoing development processes, the Valentin-Traudt-Schule is the only school in the Werra-Meißner district that has managed to achieve an increasing number of pupils.
