Valentin Ceaușescu (born February 17, 1948 ) is a Romanian physicist , former sports functionary and son - and not, as sometimes reported, an adopted son - of the Romanian dictator couple Elena and Nicolae Ceaușescu .

Life

In contrast to other members of the Ceaușescu clan, Valentin did not participate in political life during the time of communist Romania . He successfully completed a physics degree at the University of Bucharest . He continued his studies in London and then worked as a research assistant at the University of Bucharest.

In 1970 he married Iordana (Dana) Borilă, the daughter of a party official. Nicolae Ceauşescu was expressly against this wedding and even ordered the later emigration of Borilă and the children born in the meantime from his marriage to Valentin to Canada .

One of Valentin Ceaușescu's great hobbies was football. In the 1980s he took over the management of Steaua Bucharest , which, in addition to numerous championships at home, even won the European Cup in 1985/86 . At the time, Steaua Bucharest was considered a private association of the Ceaușescus in Romania and enjoyed special privileges.

After the outbreak of the Romanian Revolution in 1989 , an arrest warrant was issued against him, as well as against his siblings Zoia Ceaușescu and Nicu Ceaușescu . He was arrested and held in custody for nine months, but was released because no criminal offense could be proven. His extensive picture and book collection with some rarities was confiscated by the Romanian state.
