Valentin Herr (chronicler)

Valentin Herr (* around 1600 in Bad Neustadt an der Saale ; † February 7, 1681 there ) was a chronicler and mayor of Bad Neustadt an der Saale from 1637 to around 1681 .

Early years

Little is known about the youth of Valentin Herr. He first appeared around 1630 as the guardian of minors . On April 18, 1637 he was elected councilor . At the same time, he appeared in council minutes as sub-mayor . In these minutes he also appeared again and again in connection with arguments and disputes.

Local politician and chronicler

In 1638 he was appointed 'Beetmeister' and treasure deputy. In this respect, he oversaw the important office of treasurer . In 1639 he was appointed master brewer and thus oversees the brewing and tapping of the town. In 1641 he appeared in a dispute over embezzlement , in which he could not be proven guilty. In 1644 he became the city's builder, i.e. head of the building department.

His most important service, however, is the compilation of a chronicle of the events of Bad Neustadt during the Thirty Years' War .

Lord Mayor and Infirmary

In 1668 he was again appointed Lord Mayor of the city. In 1678 he was commissioner for the 'Infirmary'. From 1681 onwards more and more remarks about the absence of Herr in the city council appear in council minutes. Valentin Herr died on February 7th or 8th.

Trivia

In July 2019, under the direction of teacher Matthias Eichele, a highly acclaimed performance of Valentin Herr Stoff took place by a group of students from the Rhön-Gymnasium Bad Neustadt in the town hall of Bad Neustadt.
