Valentina Sandu-Dediu

Valentina Sandu-Dediu (born November 27, 1966 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian musicologist.

Sandu-Dediu studied piano with Marta Paladi at the Bucharest Music School ; Music theory and harmony with Maya Badian (1977–1985); and, from 1986 to 1990, piano with Aurora Ienei and musicology with Grigore Constantinescu at the Music University . This was followed by a study visit to Weimar in 1991 with a grant from the Alban Berg Foundation .

From 1990 to 1993 she was an editor at the Bucharest music publisher Editura Muzicala and at the same time an assistant at the music university. Since 1993 she has been teaching music history, stylistics and musicology there as a professor. In addition, she worked from 1993 to 1997 at the Institute for Art History "George Oprescu" on research on Romanian contemporary music. In 1995 she completed her dissertation on the stylistic and symbolic hypostasis of mannerism in music . From 1998 to 2004 she worked on a project on Romanian music between 1944 and 2000 with a grant from the Ernst von Siemens Foundation ; the book was published in German in 2006. Sandu-Dediu has been a MGG employee since 2000 .
