Valeria Fedeli (born July 29, 1949 in Treviglio ) is an Italian politician of the Partito Democratico . From December 12, 2016 to June 1, 2018, she was Minister for Education, Universities and Research ( Ministero dell'Istruzione, dell'Università e della Ricerca ) in the Gentiloni cabinet .

Life

Valeria Fedeli worked as an educator in a Milan kindergarten ( scuola dell'infanzia ) and was involved as a civil servant in the CIGL union . From 2012 to 2013 she was deputy head of the consumer protection organization Federconsumatori . In the parliamentary elections in Italy in 2013 , she was elected to the Senate for the Tuscany region . She was vice-president of this second chamber of parliament and represented Senate President Pietro Grasso when he temporarily assumed the office of President after the resignation of Giorgio Napolitano .

Contrary to previous statements to the contrary, she does not have a university degree in her résumé on her personal website , but is a qualified social worker and kindergarten teacher according to the old study regulations .
