Valeriu "Sony" Niculescu (born January 25, 1914 in Brăila , † November 18, 1986 ) was a Romanian football player . He played a total of 106 games in the Divizia A . In 1941 he won the Romanian championship with Unirea Tricolor Bucharest .

Career

Niculescu moved to Unirea Tricolor Bucharest in Divizia A in 1934 . In the 1934/35 season he scored 15 goals in 16 games and was one of the league's top scorers. His club finished the championship in midfield. The same was repeated in the two following seasons. In the 1937/38 season Unirea Tricolor rose from Divizia A. He left the club for Juventus Bucharest . He was unable to assert himself there and only made nine appearances in two years. Niculescu returned to Unirea Tricolor in the summer of 1940. In the 1940/41 season he contributed 21 goals in 20 games to the fact that his team could win the Romanian championship and he himself became the top scorer in the league.

After this success, the official game operation was interrupted due to the Second World War. In the unofficial transition tournaments Niculescu was again one of the top scorers and his club was one of the strongest. After the end of the war he joined Ciocanul Bucharest , but was rarely used there and was unable to build on previous achievements. After another position at Grivița CFR Bucharest , he returned to Unirea Tricolor in the summer of 1947 and ended his career there in 1948.

National team

Niculescu played two games for the Romanian national team . He made his debut in a friendly against Germany on June 1, 1941 , when he scored the goal to make it 1: 4 in the 88th minute. He played his last international match on August 16, 1942 against the same opponent.
