Brandstifter is a drama by the director and screenwriter Klaus Lemke from 1969.

action

Cologne in 1969. Students group together to defend themselves against what they consider to be negative political order. Anka sets a department store on fire with an incendiary device, since she sees herself no longer able to argue her opinion with words alone.

A young student from Hamburg comes to the shared apartment where Anka also lives and, with her own worldviews, confuses the group; partly in discord.

The film sheds light on parts of the student scene in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Among other things, it impresses with its extraordinarily long monologues, which are politically influenced.

Production notes

The film was first shown on May 13, 1969.

Reviews

"A milieu study that is interesting in its beginnings, but which hopelessly dissuades its topic"
