Valery Michailowitsch Karetnikow ( Russian Валерий Михайлович Каретников ; * 1963 ) is a former Soviet ski jumper .

Career

Karetnikow made his debut in international ski jumping on February 21, 1982 by participating in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo . In jumping from the normal hill, he came in 51st place. On December 30, 1982, he made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup at the opening competition of the Four Hills Tournament 1982/83 in Oberstdorf . He jumped from the large hill to 39th place. On January 12, 1986 he was able to win World Cup points for the first time with 12th place in Liberec , before he jumped on the podium for the first and only time in his career just five days later in Klingenthal with 3rd place. With the World Cup points won, he finished the 1985/86 season in 33rd place in the overall World Cup ranking. A year later, he managed to win two World Cup points in his last World Cup competition in Oberwiesenthal , before ending his active ski jumping career with the start of the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf in 1987 . In Oberstdorf he was able to reach 32nd place on the normal hill and 18th place on the large hill. Six years later, he started for the Russian Federation at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1993 in Sweden Falun , but came on the 65th place on the normal hill not get out.

Karetnikow won various national championship titles between 1980 and 1993. In 1982, 1986 and 1990 he won the title of the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR three times .
