Valfréjus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Valfréjus is a ski resort in the Savoie department in the French region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It is located at an altitude of 1550 m on the foothills of the Pointe du Fréjus mountain (2917 m). Politically, Val Fréjus belongs to the municipality of Modane .

The ski area comprises 65 kilometers of slopes.

The Arrondaz 8- person monocable gondola lift , which was put into operation for the 2009/2010 winter season , leads to the Plateau d'Arrondaz at an altitude of a good 2200 m, where the main area with guaranteed snow begins. With the detachable Punta Bagna chairlift, which was also in operation for the 2009/2010 winter season , the summit station on the Punta Bagna mountain at an altitude of 2737 m can be reached.

With the beginning of the 2010/2011 winter season, the fixed- grip Ramoure 4-seater chairlift, which was built in 2003 but can be described as slow from today's point of view, is no longer in operation. The lift with an entry conveyor belt from Poma was the connection from the fixed- grip Charmasson 4-seater chairlift as a second feeder to the Plateau d'Arrondaz .

The much older fixed-grip chairlift from Pas Du Roc to Punta Bagna will also no longer be in operation for the 2010/2011 winter season ; it will be replaced by a modern, previously unknown type of lift in the 2011/2012 winter season. After the expansion of the snowmaking system to the Plateau d'Arrondaz in summer 2006 and the two new lifts built in summer 2009, the ski area will continue to be consistently modernized.

The 13 km long blue descent Jeu leads past the Ouvrage Pas du Roc and the Ouvrage Le Lavoir , both bunkers on the Alpine Maginot Line. The Ouvrage Pas du Roc was attacked on June 24, 1940 by Italian troops of the 1st Infantry Division “Superga” . Together with the neighboring Ouvrage Arrondaz , the attack could be repulsed.
