Gavriel Lipkind (born August 5, 1977 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli cellist .

Life

Lipkind was born in Tel Aviv to Russian emigrants. He started playing the cello at the age of six and studied at the Tel Aviv S. Rubin Academy, the Frankfurt / Main Academy of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

He has worked with renowned orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra , the Munich Philharmonic and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, as well as well-known musicians such as Yehudi Menuhin , Pinchas Zukerman and Gidon Kremer .

Recordings with him so far are the suites for solo cello by Johann Sebastian Bach and Miniatures & Folklore (various composers). He is also a co-founder of the Lipkind Quartet .

Lipkind successfully took part in various music competitions, including a. he won the young talent award at the 5th Rostropovich International Cello Competition in Paris and a 4th place at the ARD music competition .

Lipkind plays a unique Italian cello, attributed to Aloysius Michael Garani (Bologna) and made between 1670 and 1680. It became known as the "Zihrhonheimer" cello.

After studying in Frankfurt, he lived in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe for a long time and in Kronberg im Taunus in 2000 he won third prize in the Pablo Casals competition . After working in Miami, Boston and Tokyo, Lipkind lives in Berlin on Prenzlauer Berg.
