Valstybinė miškų tarnyba (VMT, German State Forestry Office) is a forestry authority based in Kaunas . The Forest Service carries out the supervisory control of the Lithuanian forests (on the condition of the forest, forest use , reforestation, afforestation , quality of forest management and safety) regardless of the form of forest ownership . In addition, permits are issued for forest owners and forest users. Furthermore, advice is given on forest use, afforestation and forest protection . VMT was founded on January 12, 2010. Before there were three forest authorities: Miško sanitarinės apsaugos tarnyba , Miško genetinių išteklių, sėklų ir sodmenų tarnyba and Valstybinė miškotvarkos tarnyba .
