VanMoof electric bike

VanMoof is a bicycle manufacturer from the Netherlands that has sold around 120,000 e-bikes in the first ten years (2009–2019) of its existence .

history

The company was founded in Amsterdam in 2009 by the brothers Ties and Taco Carlier and specializes in city bikes. VanMoof is now represented in 40 countries and has flagship stores in Amsterdam, Taipei, Bangkok, New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, Tokyo and Berlin. The bikes are only sold directly, either in the brand stores or on the Internet.

Two models are currently being sold for private customers: The Electrified S3 and Electrified X3 .

In 2017, the company employed 70 people and generated sales of 10 million euros. The turnover has quadrupled to 40 million euros by 2019. Some analysts forecast sales of up to 100 million euros for 2020.

Range and technical features

For the 2020 S3 and X3 generation, the range is specified between 60 and 150 kilometers. In practical tests about 70 km were achieved. The output is a permanent output of 250 watts. A boost button releases 500 watts for a turbo start in order to reach the set maximum speed. In EU mode, the bike supports speeds of up to 25 km / h, in US mode up to 32 km / h, which is above the maximum speed allowed without a driver's license or license plate requirement. The pedelecs are equipped with front motors with a torque of 59  N m . They have a built-in 504 Wh battery that cannot be removed.

Awards

The Dutch bicycle manufacturer has already received the Eurobike Award (2009), the Dutch Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award . In 2009 the company received the Design Management Europe Award in the “Micro Company” category. The generation S3 and X3 presented in April 2020 received the “best of the best” award at the Red Dot Design Awards 2020.
