The noble family van der Straten-Ponthoz belong to the Austrian and Belgian nobility . They are considered to be lordly counts . While the name part van der Straten is a Low German name of origin without a nobility predicate, Ponthoz literally stands in Hungarian for “to the point”.

Rudolph Graf von der Straten-Ponthoz was born in Brussels in 1851 and was the progenitor of the Austrian branch of the noble family. He married Maria Margravine von Pallavicini in Vienna in 1876 and died in Weinern (Waldviertel) in 1926 . The descendants of this marriage are:
