Gabriel Auguste van der Straten-Ponthoz

Gabriel-Auguste Graf van der Straten-Ponthoz (born September 14, 1812 in Clavier , Province of Liège , † February 23, 1900 ) was a Belgian diplomat .

Life

He came from the Belgian count family van der Straten-Ponthoz and was the son of Louis Marie Hyacinthe Joseph Count van der Straten-Ponthoz and the Gabrielle Eustache Françoise de Laittres . Straten-Ponthoz began his diplomatic career in 1838 as an attaché at the court of the Swedish king in Stockholm . 1840 he was appointed as Secretary of Legation to Washington dispatched was 1844-1845 dortiger d'affaires and was in 1845 as deputy charge d'affaires after Rio de Janeiro was added. In 1848 he returned to Lisbon as Chargé d'affaires and in 1856 became Minister Resident in Madrid . In 1868 he came to Munich as the Belgian envoy to the Bavarian royal court , then became ambassador to The Hague in 1869 and completed his diplomatic career from 1881 to 1887 as Belgian envoy to the German imperial court in Berlin . He took part in the Congo Conference in 1884/85 as Belgian representative .
