Vanguard Car Rental USA Inc. is an American rental car company based in Tulsa , Oklahoma . Vanguard operates over 1,500 rental locations in the US and Canada under the Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental brands . The rental car fleet has around 275,000 vehicles. Vanguard bought Alamo and National in 2003 from ANC Rental Corporation.
In March 2007, Europcar took over the European activities of the National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands, and Vanguard has since concentrated on the North American market. In August 2007 the previous owner of the company, the financial investor Cerberus , sold Vanguard to the competitor Enterprise (car rental) .
