Vanua Levu [ βaˈnua ˈleβu ] (Eng. "Big Country") is the second largest island in the South Pacific state of Fiji with an area of 5587 km² .
Vanua Levu is about 70 km north of Fiji's largest island, Viti Levu, and resembles a pointed triangle in shape. About 130,000 people live on the island. The largest settlement is the city of Labasa , the highest mountain is the 1032 m high Nasorolevu . Vanua Levu's most important industry is sugar , but also copra production . In addition, tourism is also playing an increasingly important role.
To the northeast are the Ringgold Islands .
