economy
Industry
Labasa is a big city by Fijian standards, but has only one factory, the Fiji Sugar Corporation, a sugar factory. However, it is becoming more and more likely that the factory will shut down. The consequence of this is a large wave of emigration to Viti Levu , as there are no other major employers on Labasa. The largest source of income for the residents is the Labasa market, which is at the other end of town. In addition to food, there is also clothing, technical equipment and much more.
tourism
In terms of tourism , Labasa is still very far behind compared to other cities in Fiji and the entire South Pacific . However, several hotels have been built in the last few months , some of them luxury hotels.
traffic
The Labasa Mill Tramway was in operation from 1894 to 1982 .
