Vanuatu Mobile Force

The Vanuatu Mobile Force (VMF) is the relatively small armed force of the Republic of Vanuatu with its headquarters in Port Vila . Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Coulton has been in command since 2002.

Outline and history

The paramilitary Vanuatu Mobile Force (VMF) was formed on July 30, 1980 after independence. It also has a maritime arm, the Police Maritime Wing (PMW). This was founded in 1985 and has had a larger patrol boat, RVS Tukoro , since 1987 . Vanuatu security forces have already participated in United Nations operations , for the first time in 1994 in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea .
