The Papua New Guinea Defense Force are the armed forces of the state of Papua New Guinea .
History and tasks
After Papua New Guinea gained independence from Australia in 1973, the country's army was established with the Papua New Guinea Defense Force. It goes back to the Royal Pacific Islands Regiment of the Australians and today unites the army, navy and air force. Even today, the armed forces are equipped and trained by the Australian Army . The country's army was u. a. involved in the suppression of insurrections and operations in Vanuatu or the Solomon Islands .
Today, the Papua New Guinea Defense Force is particularly suffering from precarious financing conditions resulting in a lack of equipment and training. Women are only allowed to perform tasks outside of the combat units. The headquarters are in the Murray Barracks in the capital Port Moresby.
