Armed Forces of Fiji
The armed forces of Fiji ( Republic of Fiji Military Forces ) comprise the components army and navy .
General
The number of soldiers includes 3,500 soldiers , including about 300 marines, with a population of 853,445 (as of the end of 2006 estimated). Most of the soldiers are iTaukei (indigenous Fijians). About 20 percent are in UN services. Fiji spends around $ 32 million a year on the military, equipped with a helicopter and armored vehicles. The army carried out four coups against the government between 1987 and 2006 .

Before the start of the Pacific War , the Fiji Defense Force was set up as a territorial defense. Originally a battalion , a second battalion was set up at the beginning of acts of war. The armed forces of New Zealand took over the leadership of the associations . The task of the units was to secure important facilities (such as oil depots). When the United States entered the war, the units were subordinated to the US Army and disbanded at the end of the war.
With the independence of Fiji in 1978, a battalion was re-established and used in UN missions . In 1982 two more battalions were set up, the second battalion was stationed as part of the Multinational Force and Observers on the Sinai Peninsula , the third in Suva .

- Commander RFMF - The commander RFMF is a commander . He is represented by a deputy commander and the chief of staff . Long-time commander was Commodore Frank Bainimarama , who carried out a coup in 2006 and was democratically elected Prime Minister in 2014.
