The Varėnė is a 48 km long right tributary of the Merkys in southern Lithuania . The river has its source at Skraičionys in the district of Alytus and first flows northeast to Mikalavas . Here she makes a turn south, flows through the Varens -See and flows Senoji Varėna in varėna district municipality in the Merkys.
