Vasco Errani (born May 17, 1955 in Massa Lombarda , Emilia-Romagna ) is an Italian politician ( PCI , (P) DS , PD , Article 1-MDP ). From 1999 to 2014 he was President of the Emilia-Romagna Region .

Career

Errani graduated from the natural science high school in Lugo and then began studying literature and philosophy.

As a member of the Communist Party of Italy (PCI) and later the Democratic Left Party (PDS), he sat on the Ravenna City Council from 1983 to 1995 , where he also took on leading positions. In 1995 he moved into the regional parliament of Emilia-Romagna as a representative of the PDS. In 1997 he took over the tourism department as regional minister.

He retained this office when he was first elected regional president in 1999. In the first direct election of the president in the following year, the voters confirmed him in office with over 56 percent of the votes. In the elections in 2005 he received almost 63 percent of the vote, in 2010 he was re-elected (now as a member of the Partito Democratico ) with around 52 percent. Vasco Errani was the longest serving President of an Italian region at the end of his term of office. In 2000 he was elected vice-chairman of the Conference of Italian Regional Presidents, and in 2005 chairman; In 2010 he was confirmed as chairman. In 2014 he resigned from his office due to a scandal.

In February 2017, Errani resigned from the PD and participated in the founding of the Articolo 1 - Movimento Democratico e Progressista party . On the left list Liberi e Uguali , he was elected to the Italian Senate in 2018 .
