Vasilije Kusovac

Vasilije M. Kusovac (born May 15, 1929 in Cetinje ; † April 24, 2013 ibid) was a Yugoslav and Montenegrin medic . He was best known for his research on infertility in women.

Life

Kusovac began his medical studies in Sarajevo in 1948 . During the Cominform he was expelled from the faculty. He continued his studies in Belgrade , where he graduated in 1956. After graduating, he began to specialize in gynecology at Danilo I Hospital in Cetinje with Rajko Djurisic, the head of the gynecological-obstetric service in Cetinje.

Kusovac was married and had three children. Kusovac was known as a humble humanist and is honored as that by Predrag Sekulic in his book "Zdravstvena zaštita žene u Crnoj Gori" and by Andrija Rakovic in his book "Pobjeda".

Create

Vasilije Kusovac published his doctoral thesis in Novi Sad in 1982. The topic was Development of Women's Health Care in Montenegro - Status and Perspectives. The dissertation was printed in 1994 on over 300 pages with 460 references. This monograph provides comprehensive information on the development of women's health in Montenegro and the entire territory of ex Yugoslavia. It contains the names of doctors, the first gynecologists in Montenegro. The data on violent abortions and the first trained midwives in Zadar, Belgrade and later in Cetinje and Podgorica are listed here. The dissertation is now used as a reference work.

Kusovac obtained information from the Montenegrin Archives about doctors and Russian immigrants who were promoting health care across Montenegro. The results of this research were announced by Kusovac at a scientific conference in Cetinje on December 4, 1998 on the 125th anniversary of the construction of the Cetinje Danilo I Hospital. This paper is entitled Russian Emigrants, Doctors in Montenegro, with particular reference to their contribution to the work of Danilo I Hospitals between World War I and World War II. At the beginning of the work, Kusovac says with an emotional remark:

"I dedicate this work on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Danilo I Hospital in Cetinje to my colleagues - refugees from the horror, suffering and blood of the civil war in Russia, which they are looking for in search of bread, a roof and a lost home Bring to Montenegro to impart their medical training and knowledge there. Acquired all over Great Russia, the citizens of the earlier wars tortured and after the war, thank God, only temporarily lost Montenegro. Special piety and memory of the character and work of Vsevold Novikov, who conveyed the surgical glory of the hospital to the public of European countries. With the first and last name of 45 Russian doctors, Kusovac provides information about where they were born, when and where they graduated, and which medical school they graduated from. An essay on Russian doctors, emigrants, was published in 1998 in the Proceedings of the History of Montenegrin Medical Services, Cetinje.

Kusovac was a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Gynecologists and Obstetricians of Yugoslavia and President of the Gynecological-Obstetricians Section of the Medical Association of Montenegro.

Awards

Kusovac was awarded the highest national recognition of Montenegro (also known as "Trinaestojulska nagrada") for his contribution to the health sector in Montenegro with the Petar Miljanic plaque.
