VASSAL

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

VASSAL is a free Java - Software to which provides a platform board games , card games and tabletop games to play online against other players. The games can be played in real time over the Internet or via email ( PbeM ). VASSAL was designed to run smoothly on all operating systems.

VASSAL does not contain any games, a module has to be loaded for each simulated game. The program was originally created by Rodney Kinney to play Advanced Squad Leader over the Internet, and was later expanded to give developers the ability to create their own modules. VASSAL is characterized above all by its simple editing options, which means that non-programmers can also develop modules.

Available modules

A list of available modules can be found under: VASSAL module list However, some modules (especially those listed here) are missing from the list there.

Incompatibilities

On the one hand, there are incompatibilities of individual modules that were created with earlier VASSAL versions. On the other hand, there are problems with JAVA versions. Current versions of Firefox no longer support JAVA since the end of 2018. The current VASSAL version (as of February 2019) only works with the older JAVA- JRE -8 version.
