Vassal (composer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vassal (* in the 16th century; † in the 16th century; active between 1538 and 1547) was a French Renaissance composer.

Nothing is known about his life. Six four-part chansons have come down to us from him . In five of them he concentrates on the form of the hearty chanson grivoise , the content of which is jokes and jokes; only one, Vuidez soulas , is of conventional sentimental content. His works are reminiscent of those of his contemporaries Jannequin and Passereau in the texts, but also in the use of short notes as primary rhythmic values . The chansons were published in collective collections between 1538 and 1547, all of which were printed by Pierre Attaingnant in Paris. At least six reprints of his chanson Vray dieu were published by other publishers by 1571, which speaks for a certain contemporary popularity.
