In addition to motets , his work consists of 26 chansons published by Pierre Attaignant , including the famous Il est bel et bon , which imitates the cry of the hens. According to contemporary reports, this chanson is said to have even been sung in the streets of Venice . She tells the story of a wife who makes fun of her good-natured and hardworking but silly and horned husband. Whether shoddy, narrative, descriptive or melancholy, Passereau's works met with a certain degree of success: Published several times, they were parodied by several of his contemporaries, including Pierre Certon (1570) and also adapted for playing with instruments. Another proof of his popularity can be found in Rabelais' list of musicians in his Le Quart Livre (Eng .: The Fourth Book) of 1552: There he describes Passereau as a "happy musician".
