The Vectrix Corporation was a manufacturer of electric scooters .
General / history
The company Vectrix Corporation was originally founded in 1996 in the USA. The company headquarters was in Rhode Island (USA). The aim was to create a commercial technology platform for zero-emission vehicles , which were required by the manufacturers through the CARB legislation in California. In 2007 the fully electric motor scooter Vectrix VX-1 was presented.
The Vectrix Sp. Zoo in Breslau / Poland manufactured the scooters. With its equipment and performance data (110 km / h, up to 80 km range), the vehicle marked the top performance peak for e-scooters . The Vectrix Corporation became the only and therefore leading manufacturer of premium electric scooters at the time, which can be assigned to the displacement class up to 125 cm³. Even in a direct comparison with the models with combustion engines that had been developed over many years, there were only two noteworthy points of criticism: the shorter range and the significantly higher purchase price.
The Vectrix Corporation established factory branches and sales companies in many countries, for example:
- Australia
- Germany
- Ireland
- Italy
- Switzerland
- United States
Vectrix Deutschland GmbH (German general importer), founded in Berlin on September 27, 2007, began operations on March 1, 2008. On Wednesday, July 15, 2009, Vectrix Corporation announced that it was opening bankruptcy proceedings. At that time, the Vectrix Corporation had sold around 200 employees, 225 dealerships worldwide and more than 2000 vehicles (2008) and thus achieved a leading position in the market. Vectrix Deutschland GmbH and Vectrix Poland Sp.Zo.o. (Manufacturing company) were not affected by the bankruptcy.
On November 24th, 2009 the insolvent Vectrix Corporation announced the complete takeover by GP Batteries International Limited , one of the world's largest battery manufacturers. For the takeover, the Hong Kong and Singapore-based GoldPeak Group founded a subsidiary, New Vectrix LLC, which was renamed Vectrix Corporation after the takeover. All shares are managed by GP through EVB Technology Limited (Hong Kong).
The production of the recognized Vectrix VX-1 continued at the factory in Wroclaw (Poland). At the same time, Vectrix developed a new product family. In addition to a facelift and further development of the VX-1 in terms of battery technology, a sensible alternative for the 50 cm³ class was developed, the Vectrix VX-2. The new models have been on the market since 2011.
Wesley Lau, Head of Strategy and Special Projects at GP and the new President of Vectrix Corporation said: “Vectrix is the leading brand in the electric two-wheeler industry based on a high performing product and a good position in the market. We want to maintain this position with our customers in the future and fully exploit the possibilities of electromobility with further innovations. "
Although the electric motorcycle study "Vectrix Superbike SBK" with a top speed of 200 km / h, which was presented at the EICMA 2007 in Milan, has not yet gone into production, the concept was pursued and presented again in 2012.
At the beginning of 2014, Vectrix ceased operations and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy .
In July 2015, the Munich-based electric scooter manufacturer Govecs announced the purchase of the Vectrix machine park in order to integrate it into its own production facility. The takeover is expected to quadruple GOVECS 'production volume to over 20,000 vehicles per year.
