Veli Verkko

Veli Kaarle Verkko (born July 8, 1893 in Helsinki ; † April 6, 1955 ibid) was a Finnish sociologist and criminologist. He examined the various forms of murder and other violent crimes in an international comparison. The main explanatory variables for him were the character of the people and the resulting differences in the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Verkko was from 1940 to 1948 lecturer in criminology and statistics at the University of Helsinki and from 1948 until his death there professor of sociology . From 1948 to 1952 he edited the "Nordiske Studier i Sociologie" (Nordic Sociological Studies) together with Theodor Geiger , Torgny Torgnysson Segerstedt and Johan Vogt .
