The Vendia was a cargo steamer from Denmark .

The ship was measured at 1,150 GRT and had a length of 69 m, a width of 11 m and a draft of 4 m. It belonged to the shipping company Forenende Kulimportörer Aktien Selskab in Copenhagen. The ship was built in Germany in 1924 by Holwaldtswerke AG in Kiel.

The Vendia received on 30 September 1939 in the North Sea, 35 nautical miles north-west of Hanstholm in naval grid square AN 3593 a torpedo hit in the stern , which tore away and sank. This torpedo was shot down from the submarine U3 . At 12:05 p.m. there was an explosion in the forecastle , which then also sank in a cloud of smoke. The ship drove in ballast . Eleven people were killed, six were rescued from the North Sea and handed over to the Danish steamer Savana .
