Veni Domine is a progressive epic doom band. It was founded in 1987 in Sollentuna , Sweden and can be assigned to Christian Metal .

Band history

In 1987 Veni Domine was founded by Thomas and Torbjörn Weinesjö and Anders Olofsson under the name Seventh Seal . A little later, Fredrik Sjöholm (also: Fredrik Ohlsson) joined the band as a singer. In 1987 the demo Glorify was released . In 1988, Seventh Seal II followed , which was professionally recorded and released a year later at Thunderload Studios. Then the group was renamed Veni Domine.

After the group had performed at the Greenbelt Festival (Cheltenham Racecourse, England), they were able to secure a record deal with the English label Kingsway Music. In 1991 the debut album Fall Babylon Fall was released with keyboardist Per Anders Danielsson. The album was distributed by Massacre Records . For the second album Material Sanctuary (1995) Mats Lidbrant could be engaged as keyboard player. For the release of the album, the brothers Ragne Wahlquist and Styrbjörn Wahlquist ( Heavy Load ) had reanimated their record label Thunderload . In 1996 the group toured with Savior Machine and Soul Cages .

1997 Mattias Cederlund (keyboards) and Gabriel Ingemarson (bass) joined Veni Domine. The fourth album Spiritual Wastelands was released in the same year. Already at this time they were working on the songwriting for the successor. In autumn 2000 they went to the studio for the first time, but singer Fredrik Ohlsson had vocal problems and was unable to participate for a year.

In 2004 the album IIII - The Albums of Labor was finally released , again with Mats Lidbrant on keyboards. In 2005 the former keyboardist Per Anders Danielsson died.

In 2006 and 2007 the albums 23:59 and Tongues were released . In September 2014, the band announced their breakup on their Facebook page.

Music genre

Veni Domine combine elements of progressive metal with doom metal. Fredrik Sjöholm's singing is very high and is often seen as a shortcoming by the critics. Her songs are rather dark and depressing and her lyrics often refer to the apocalypse that is described in the Revelation of John . The idiosyncratic sound makes it difficult for many to find access to the band.
