The Veränderliche- or Langhörnige alleculinae ( Gonodera luperus ) is a beetle from the family of darkling beetles (Tenebrionidae) within the subfamily of alleculinae (Alleculinae). It is the only species of the genus Gonodera in Central Europe.

features

The beetles are 6.5 to 9 millimeters long. Your body is variable in color. Most of the time the animals are black, the wings (elytra) are red-brown, the legs and parts of the antennae are brown. There are also specimens whose upper side is completely yellow-brown, and the pronotum can also be darker in color. The head is finely structured in dots. The last tarsal segment is large and broadened in a hatchet shape. The antennae are long, the fourth link being significantly longer than the third. The pronotum, which is completely punctiform, is transverse and has rounded front corners. The rear corners are obtuse. The cover wings are striped lengthways and structured on the strips as well as in the spaces between them.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in Europe and occurs in the north to Denmark and central Sweden. It is also common locally in England and Ireland. It inhabits the edges of forests from the plains to the mountain valleys. The adults are often found on flowering bushes at the edge of the forest.
